In November 2014 the University celebrated its 75th Anniversary. The Anniversary is the time when we estimate the past, comprehend the present and plan the future. University met its Anniversary worthily not only demonstrating its correspondence to modern demands but also having great creative and professional potential. The results that the University has already gained are the basis for its future success, the outcome of the intense work of those who have created the University’s reputation. The history of Murmansk Arctic State University lets us look forward with certainty, because during this period the University has become the center of science and culture in the Kola North and its graduates, being the intellectual elite of the region, strengthen and increase its glory.

Russian-Norwegian intensive course "Culture, society and development in the Barents region" Печать

On 9-20 October 2017, Murmansk Arctic State University has been holding an intensive educational course "Culture, society and development in the Barents region". MASU has become a platform for the "pilot" project which is being organized in the region for the first time by the three Arctic universities. Main focal point of the course is relations between Russia and Norway. The initiative for the project was launched by Barents Institute – the Kirkines department of UiT – the Arctic University of Norway.
MASU deligation in "Tirpitz" Museum in Alta, Norway Печать

15-16 June 2017, MASU delegation took part in opening the exhibition of "Tirpitz" Museum in Alta, Norway. The exhibition is devoted to the presence of "Tirpitz" battleship in Norway during the World War II when the vessel threatened the Allied convoys to USSR and retained British navy forces. During the exhibition, Russian representatives gave a lecture on Soviet forces in the Northern regions. Also, the parties held a discussion concerning the role of USSR in liberating Northern Norway and reflected upon Norwegian partisans' help for the Soviet prisoners in Norway.

What is more, MASU delegation visited a former camp for the Soviet prisoners in Kåfjord village.

Murmansk Arctic State University delegation included: head of History and Law Department, PhD in History, associate professor — Vladislav Kuz; PhD in History, associate professor – Maria Ilicheva; interpreter of Research and International Communication Office — Mikhail Uksusov.

MASU is now planning to develop the collaboration with the Norwegian partners in the framework of cultural and educational projects: creating joint tourist route along the major Northern battlefield and memorial places; organizing the exhibition of war-time photos; installing the memorial sign on place of the former prisoners camp; giving thematic lectures to MASU students etc.

17 May 2017, MASU Humanities and Social Studies Institute held a meeting between the students of Social work program studying at the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences (photos 1,2), Sari Pöyhönen – Assistant Consul General of Finland in Saint-Petersburg (Murmansk office) in mass media and culture issues, and Tatyana Yashinkina – Assistant for economic affairs in the mentioned Consulate.

First meeting within the framework of “Societal security” project Печать

28th April, 2017, Saint-Petersburg State University's Department of International Relations served a platform for the first meeting within the framework of "Societal security" project. The project's implementation was financed by the means of Nordic Council grant. The meeting was attended by researchers from Saint Petersburg State University, Murmansk Arctic State University, Northern Arctic State University, Arctic University of Norway, Lapland University, School of Engineering and Natural Sciences of The University of Iceland, Council of the Baltic Sea States etc.

MASU delegation was represented by professor, vice-rector for strategic development M. Shishaev; associate professor Yu. Bardileva; associate professor, head of International Cooperation Office I. Ryzhkova. Professor Shishaev and associate professor Bardileva presented their own vision on various aspects of contemporary societal security issue. The presentations had the highest regard from the Russian and foreign partners. The next project meeting is planned for the Autumn 2017 to be held on the basis of the Arctic University of Norway. Within the meeting's framework the participants are to discuss the issues concerning the publication of joint collection of articles devoted to the societal security methodology.
Russian-Norwegian intensive course in comparative analysis of Social work with youth Печать

3–5 April 2017, Murmansk Arctic State University held a Russian-Norwegian intensive course in comparative analysis of Social work with youth.

The course program consisted of 3 modules: "Social work with youth", "Social work with migrants and indigenous communities", "Methodological approaches to social issues' research".

15–16 March 2017, MASU held the 5th International Kant-Bakhtin Seminar, by now traditional annual event organized by the Department of Philosophy and Social Studies in collaboration with the Norwegian Nord University (Bodo). This time, the seminar's conversation subject was the border-like nature of human existence in its various aspects, that found its way in the seminar's title "A human between…"
Meeting with the representatives of The University of Tromsш - The Arctic University of Norway Печать

On the 9th of March 2017, Murmansk Arctic State University held a meeting with the representatives of The University of Tromsø - The Arctic University of Norway. The meeting agenda dealt with the development of all student academic mobility forms: virtual and real; development of joint bachelor and master programs as exemplified by the "Bachelor of Northern Studies" program. Moreover, another topical issue was the discussion of potential "KOLARCTIC" project ideas.
